Exciting Update: Task IDs in 1Medium Now Use a new Encoding

At 1Medium, we strive to enhance our platform and improve how you interact with your tasks. Today, we’re excited to announce a significant update to make referencing tasks easier and more intuitive: Task IDs will now use a different encoding!

What’s Changing?

Previously, task IDs were sequential numbers. Moving forward, task IDs will be transformed into a Base32 format, which provides a more compact and universally unique identifier. This change is designed to streamline task referencing and make your workflow more efficient.

What This Means for You

• Existing Links: If you have existing links or references to tasks, they will be transitioned to the new format. All links will need to be updated from your current workflow.
• New Tasks: All new tasks will be assigned IDs in the new Base32 format, making it straightforward to reference and track them.
• Enhanced Organization: With the new format, you can easily identify and categorize tasks based on their project, priority, or organization, enhancing your overall task management experience.

Understanding the New Format

Here’s how the new task ID format will look:

• New Example ID: DEILG-5e
• DEILG: This part of the ID represents the parent project, priority, or organization call sign. It serves as a recognizable prefix to help categorize and locate the task’s context.
• 5e: This is the unique Base32 number, generated using a custom alphabet. Base32 encoding allows us to create short yet unique identifiers that are easy to use and remember.
